Enrolment process

If your child turns 5:

  • before 1 May, they can start primary school at the start of the year.
  • after 1 May, they can start the next year.

Your child must be at school by their 6th birthday.

If our school is not your local school, you can still apply to enrol, but enrolment will only be offered if we have places available.

Visit the school enrolment section on the department’s website for more information.

Mid-year intake from 2024

From 2024, there will be a mid-year intake into school.

From 2024, if your child turns 5 years between 1 May and 31 October, they can start school in either:

  • term 3 of the same year
  • or term 1 the following year.

Students enrolled through a mid-year intake will complete 6 terms of reception.

Apply to enrol

Step 1: submit a Registration of Interest form by the 31st of January for a mid-year enrolment in that year, or the 30th of June for an enrolment at the start of the next year. You can get a form from our front office, or at the following links:

Registration of Interest – Reception

Registration of Interest – Year 1-6

Step 2: once you have received an enrolment offer (February for mid-year or August for start of year) submit your forms and verification documents by the due date. You’ll need to provide:

  • a completed enrolment form
  • a copy of the child’s original birth certificate or passport
  • an immunisation certificate
  • residency visa, if you’re a non-Australian resident
  • proof of address (for example utility bill or lease agreement).

Offers of enrolment

Step 3: you’ll receive a confirmation of enrolment in March for mid-year enrolments or September for start of year enrolments. Information about transition visits will also be sent out once your enrolment has been confirmed.

Step 4: attend an information session, usually held at the same time as your child’s transition visit.

Transition visits

Before starting school, you’ll get a letter to let you know when you can attend a transition visit in term 2 for mid-year enrolments or term 4 for start of year enrolments. It is strongly recommended that your child attends all of the transition visits.

Parent information sessions are usually held during the first transition visit. Due to limited space available relatives, kindergarten staff and support workers are unable to attend transition visits.
